"Stadium roofing"
Jassim-Bin-Hamad stadium, Doha - Qatar
Donges deliveries/works:
Extensive experience in building sports facilities helped Donges Stahlbau GmbH against international competition to win the contract for the main stadium of the Al-Sadd Sports Club in Doha-Qatar. References of many spectacular sports buildings, a technologically and econmically attractive submittal, as well as the „Made in Germany“ with the associated expectations regarding quality and adherence to schedules convinced the Owner, the „Qatar National Olympic Committee“ (QNOC).
Donges has promised that the football match against Real Madrid can take place as early as February 2004 in the new partly-completed stadium, meaning that the pylons have to be completely erected by no later than the end of January 2004, as a precondition for installing the provisional floodlight system.
Donges is building the stadium in a consortium with Josef Gartner GmbH, supplying the roof cladding with steel-aluminium waffle panels and the glass facades. The steel structure is being structurally analysed, designed and (pre)fabricated at the Darmstadt works. Because of the tight schedule, part of the structural members have to be delivered by air, the remaining elements are being transported in the main by container ship.
Donges assebles and erects the 2,600 tonnes of steel construction for the pylons, cables, roof trusses and purlins on the site at Doha.
Four 45 metres towering steel pylons mark this futuristic stadium new building. The loads from the wrap-around arched roof are tansferred via cables to the four pylon towers. The pylons, spaced at 142 and 108 metres, penetrate the roof surface and are clad above the roof with interior-lit steel-glass elements (shadow boxes).
To prepare the steel structure assembly & erection, Donges erectors have already been on the ground since October 2003.
